What makes a wedding memorable?

Although there a million options to this one question, we are going to highlight the top 5!

First of all, we suggest writing your own vows.  Make sure you’ve put enough thought into the music, readings, and vows that will make your wedding ceremony personal.

Second, consider your guests when making your timeline for the evening. Not only are you the Bride and Groom you are also the Host for the evening.

Next, Even if you plan on serving a full dinner at your reception, it’s a good idea to have a few nibbles for your guests to nosh on while they wait for you and your new spouse to make your grand entrance.

Fourth, Don’t wait to long to treat the guest to the amazing cake they have been drooling over since the walked into the reception hall. (that’s just mean!)

Finally, the most memorable weddings have been those with rocking bands!  Nothing better than live music (and an open bar!) to get people moving!  If you have a killer band who can get the crowd moving, then you will have a hit! If the budget doesn’t stretch far enough for the band, then hire a DJ that knows his stuff and can keep the party rocking!

We appreciate couples that look for unique ways to personalize their event, but too different can be a distraction. So make your “different” choices wisely. If you need some suggestions, Tulsa Weddings & Design is only a phone call away.

Including your family pet in your wedding!

From our very first meeting with Julie and Jesse, we knew they were an amazing couple, and they would be sharing their day with their beloved “Britney”!  Which is what prompted us to write this post.  We feel your guests list should include your closest friends and family -whether they have 2 legs or 4!! Having your pet stand beside you creates the warm, lighthearted surprise that make a wedding memorable for everyone to witness and enjoy!

bridal portait with pets Although we treat our 4 legged friends like they are our “besties” and often share our deepest secrets with them please consider the Pro’s & Con’s in having them tag along. We have a few tips for you to consider if  you refer to your pet as the first child (so to speak) and want to involve them as honored guests.

Determine Your Pet’s Role -If you’re thinking of including a pet in your wedding, there are a few things to consider. Is it appropriate for the kind of ceremony you’re having? “An animal fits a certain type of affair, one at a farmhouse or a private estate, perhaps, but probably not at a fancy hotel.

Well in advance, inform attendants and vendors that your pet will play a role, and discuss special measures you’d like them to take. Also notify your officiant.

Consider hiring a handler with whom the pet is already acquainted, or have a friend be responsible for the pet during the ceremony and reception.

Anticipate Potential Hazards- Ask at the wedding site about pesticides or toxic plants on the grounds, and about creatures that might distract or threaten your pet. If your florist is adorning your pet’s collar, be sure she uses nontoxic materials. And keep pets, especially dogs, someplace safe during the reception so guests won’t feed them. Certain wedding fare, including chocolate, alcohol, and meat with bones, can be dangerous.

Practice Makes Perfect- Bring your pet to the site before the wedding day, and have him come to the rehearsal to practice his part if he will be participating in the ceremony.

The Other “Groom” Take the animal to the groomer before the wedding so he’ll look his best. Keep adornments minimal and easy for the pet to wear. Don’t make him wear them for longer than is necessary. Photos courtesy of Amanda Watson Photography

Chelsie + Trent Gilcrease Museum

We loved every minute of planning this wedding with Chelsie and Trent. Such a fun, loving couple inside and out. Chelsie and Trent fell in love with Gilcrease Museum for their wedding venue. They knew there guests would also love seeing the Museum as an added bonus to the celebration. The plans were set for the ceremony to take place in the garden followed by a cocktail hour, docent tours and then guests would enjoy a lovely plated dinner in the Vista room.

We had no idea our staff would drive thru “tornado like” weather to set up the ceremony that morning. All in a days work to ensure our guests have a stress free wedding day. Chelsie was not one bit concerned, she was marrying the man of her dreams and rain or shine didn’t matter.

And while Trent seemed pretty even keel, his softer side showed through when family members stood up to toast to the couple. Just as we arrived for set up the clouds parted and the sun begin to shine!!! (it was perfect) The rest as they say “was history in the making”…. Take a look at how the day unfolded captured by our good friend and amazing photographer Andrea Murphy.  www.amphotography.com

A few details from the ceremony…… love the programs designed to duplicate as a fan for an outdoor ceremony form Paper Girl . The breath taking bouquets and reception flowers were crafted by the talented Mandy Miller of Divine Designs by Mandy.

Keeping with tradition of the brides parents wedding cake, Ann’s Bakery was the hands down choice for the wedding cake.
